Janet
Shipley Hawks Home - Oklahoma State
I am a fiber artist/teacher who lives
in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2007, my book, Sculpted Threads, Artful
Brooches, Earrings and More was published by Martingale & Co.
This is an art form that I have developed using machine
embroidery thread and free motion stitching on water soluble
stabilizer using a home sewing machine. With the technique it
is possible to create jewelry, purses and decorative items. I
have taught some classes at a local quilt shop where I was
limited to a 3 hour time period. Because this is a technique
new to most everyone, that is really too short a class.
My first preference would be a full
day session where the basic techniques for simple jewelry pieces
would be covered. In a 2 day session, more complicated jewelry
and some beading would be covered as well as design
suggestions. A 3 day class would allow for comprehensive
coverage of the jewelry (brooches and earrings) and beading
techniques. In order to learn the jewelry as well as the
"undersea forms" and vessels it would require 5 days. Cost for
these classes would depend on the size of the class and how far
I had to travel which would be negotiated. All classes would be
workshops with the students supplying their own sewing machines.
Workshop prices depend on size of class and how far I would have to travel. All classes would be workshops with the students supplying their own sewing machines.
